I have been writing music for most of my life. My music comes in two specific flavors: electronic ambient and neoclassical-sounding solo piano. My setup is pretty basic actually, considering my general proclivity for computers. I have a lovely Korg 01/WFD synthesizer and a Yamaha Clavinova CLP-220 digital piano, with a typical little cheap MIDI interface for connecting to my Mac. I use Finale to score my music and use the Korg's internal sequencer to record it, although I have used GarageBand some too. It's pretty simple actually.

I have discovered that I have a strong sense of musical synesthesia, in which certain pieces have a distinct color to them. Where a piece evokes such an experience I have noted in the database. This effect is generally very weak however, and I readily admit that it is probably not true synesthesia in the clinical, neurological sense of the word.

I used to group my music into albums which I would compile after I had written and recorded about an hour's worth of music. I do less of this now that we live in the internet age when I can distribute songs on an individual basis.

Database

Entries are sorted primarily by date except where genre-groupings override (piano pieces and a few miscellaneous pieces), then grouped by genre and/or album (with a few cross-listings), and finally color-coded by album (although I never actually produced and released a Tribal Beats album).

Downloadable Files

Recordings can be downloaded as .mp4/.m4a (256 kbps VBR AAC) files by clicking the titles in the left column. In addition, for the Solo Piano collection sheet music is available. Note that there is also a Solo Piano audio CD available (while supplies last) for donations of $10 or more in the U.S. or $12 internationally. I realize I may never get rid of these CDs, but I would like to try to recoup the costs of production.

Ratings

The database provides a rating system consisting first of a row of up to five orange stars and then of a second row of five gray stars with a gray 'X' on the left side. The orange stars indicate the average rating for a given piece. The gray stars and the 'X' permit you to contribute a new rating. Whenever you click a gray star the corresponding rating is immediately added to the database. You can easily change a rating by clicking a different star.

The 'X' lets you remove your rating entirely (it is not conceptually a 0-star rating, rather it is a "non"-rating, just in case you accidentially click one of the stars without intending to do so). If some of the stars on the second row (the gray stars) are red, that indicates that you have probably rated the song in the past. You certainly don't need to change your rating unless you feel so inclined. With most browsers, your contributed rating should be immediately incorporated into the overall orange-star rating without reloading the page.

Please only rate pieces you have actually listened to. I realize there is practically no way for me to regulate this process, but I appreciate your participation.
