Philips Vesta 675 Long Exposure Modification

Test Results and Comparison to Quickcam Pro 3000

The following image shows a series of darkframes that demonstrate the effectiveness of the amp-off mod and allow a comparison between the Quickcam Pro 3000 and the Philips Vesta 675. Amp glow is characterized by a gradient glow that emits from the upper-left corner. The first thing to realize when studying these darkframes is that the amp-off mod to the Quickcam cannot actually turn the amp entirely off since the camera doesn't function properly. Instead, the mod is done in such a way that the power to the amp is minimized. This explains why you see amp glow in the amp-off shots for the Quickcam, although much diminished from the amp-on shots of the same duration.

What this image doesn't show you, due to an 5.3X reduction in size for each image, is that the Quickcam has far fewer hotpixels than the Vesta.
